One after the other, the advisors stepped forward, laying a hand on the crown and nodding their head. This went on until all seven advisors had shown their blessing and approval, then with a nod at the advisor who had been holding the velvet cushion which held the crown, the man stepped forward and accepted the cushion. The priestess lifted the crown from the cushion and, turning, placed it on Kelric’s head.
Next, Radisq’s parents stood from their thrones and came forward, dropping a kiss onto Kelric’s forehead with their whispered approval for the one who would take charge after them. Radisq’s father clasped hands with his son then laid a hand on Aaeren’s shoulder, stared at his grandson with pride, and turned to the empty seat next to where Radisq and Aaeren had been sitting earlier.
Radisq’s mother gave her son a hug then laid a kiss on Aaeren’s cheek before going to join her husband, leaving the main throne seats empty. They had not fully abdicated as they could only do so when Kelric hit his hundredth year and found his mate or should the circumstances fall for it once Kelric hit his hundredth year. Until then, they would continue ruling then take Kelric under their tutelage till he was ready.
Once the approval and blessing was over, Radisq and Aaeren went back to their seats with Kelric on Aaeren’s lap, and a cheer rose from the crowd. This was not a regular treatment for all royal Fae when they were born, but it had to be done since the throne would, in essence, skip a generation, and a confirmation of their next king was needed.
Ilno felt a hand slide into his, and glancing down, he saw his mate holding onto him and giving his hand a squeeze. A soft smile came to dance upon his lips as he raised eyes full of love to the protruding belly and further up to train on the man who had changed his whole world.
His own hand went to his swollen belly and the joy which engulfed him surpassed witnessing the crowning of their future king for all he could see was Ciran.
“I love you, mate,” Ciran whispered.
And with those words, Ilno felt his heart melt and excitement for their unborn children who would soon come into this world to grace their arms.
